What do you mean by “Open Tax Years”?
Open tax years are all years that could be audited, or that fall within the statute of limitations for audits. For the IRS, the general statute of limitations for tax returns is three years from the date the return was filed. Additional years can be added if a substantial error is identified. Generally, if a substantial error is identified, the IRS will not go back more than six years. There is no limit on how far back the IRS can go if a fraudulent return is filed. Fraudulently prepared returns are not covered by our memberships. Since a membership provides defense for a tax return under audit, returns that were never filed are not defendable. The time limit for auditing state returns varies.
Which membership is right for me?
TaxResources offers two audit defense memberships that are designed to fit your individual needs. Our plans include the Premier Membership Plan and Standard Audit Defense Membership. Compare our Membership Services to see which one is right for you. View Chart
What happens when I receive an audit notice?
As soon as you receive an audit notice, call the phone number provided on your TaxResources membership agreement. DO NOT call the IRS. You must use TaxResources as YOUR ONLY contact with the IRS or State. When you have provided the audit notice and the tax return to our Audit Coordinator, the appropriate qualified representative will be assigned to you.
Will you be offering your memberships every year?
Yes. TaxResources plans to continue our membership programs.
What is your satisfaction guarantee?
You may cancel your Premier Membership Plan or Standard Audit Defense Membership for any reason within 30 days of purchase.
Do you review my tax return before you accept my membership?
We do not review your tax return prior to the acceptance of the membership. If you join our Premier Membership Plan, your federal tax return can be reviewed once a year at no extra charge to you.
Is Tax Audit Defense for such a nominal cost too good to be true?
We agree that it may seem too good to be true, but it is not. We have been successfully defending taxpayers since 1988.
I have a business. Is it included?
If you have a business that files a partnership or corporation return, you must purchase a separate membership for that entity.
If your business entity has gross receipts exceeding $5 million and/or 10 partners/stockholders/beneficiaries/members, the business is not eligible for membership.
Do you provide memberships for Publicly Traded entities?
We do not provide any form of memberships for Publicly Traded entities.
How long will these Membership Plans defend my return?
If you are a member of our Premier Membership Plan, we will defend any of your tax returns as long as you maintain your membership with us. If you have a Standard Audit Defense Membership, we will defend the tax return for which you bought the membership for as long as it can be audited.
Can I purchase Standard Audit Defense Memberships for prior years?

A Standard Audit Defense Membership does not include returns that are filed late. TaxResources will defend late filed returns for an additional late filing fee. Please contact Customer Service for additional information.
